Shark Tank Style’ Judging on Sunday from 1-2PM Open to Public

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (November 4th) – On Saturday, November 4th, on the heels of their successful ‘HiveStorm’ Amazon HQ2 RFP community summit, the Carolina Fintech Hub brought together 8 teams of 39 student competitors to commence a 28 hour Hackathon focused on Fintech (financial technology), which will finish with a ‘Shark Tank Style’ judging session from 1-2PM this Sunday at the UNCC PORTAL Building.

“This is a great opportunity for the next generation of business and technical talent in the region to showcase their creativity in the space of Fintech and win cash prizes,” said Tariq Bokhari, Executive Director of the Carolina Fintech Hub. “The students have access to technology and API’s provided by CFH partner Oracle, Yodlee and several other companies. It’s similar to TopChef, in that we’ve provided them with highly sought after technical ‘ingredients’ that each team will figure out how to make the most creative dish.”

Additionally, many non-technical students are participating in the Entrepreneur category of the competition, where they are building business cases that innovate in the areas of 1) bank branch of the future, 2) regulation, and 3) gamification.

“This is not just about competing for money and prizes,” stated Bokhari, “the anchor partners of the Carolina Fintech Hub are the region’s top names in banking and financial services. They are using this as an opportunity to build a pipeline in our own backyard for new market talent – so high-profile job and internship opportunities are on the line as well. This is the pilot launch for an annual, region-wide competition spanning all Universities in North and South Carolina next year.

Spectators and press from the community are invited to join during the live judging session conclusion that begins at 1PM at UNCC’s PORTAL Building, 9319 Robert D Snyder Road, Charlotte NC. You are asked to arrive by 12:30PM to ensure you have a spot.
